We’re delighted to announce that our Museum Manager, David Longford, has been invited to speak at the WorkLab Conference 2025, taking place in Hamburg from 5–7 November.
This year’s conference theme, “Workers’ Culture”, will explore how the stories, struggles, and identities of working people are preserved, interpreted, and celebrated across Europe and beyond. Organised by WorkLab – the International Association of Labour Museums, the conference brings together museum professionals, researchers, and activists who are committed to championing the voices of working communities.
David will be sharing insights from the Framework Knitters Museum, focusing on the lived experiences of framework knitters in the East Midlands – a group whose resilience, innovation, and challenges helped shape the region’s industrial and social history. His presentation will highlight the museum’s role in keeping these stories alive, as well as its work with local communities today.
Speaking ahead of the conference, David said:

The framework knitters’ story is one of hard work, creativity, and solidarity – values that resonate strongly with the theme of this year’s conference. I’m looking forward to learning from others and sharing what makes our museum and our community so unique.”
