Freelance Arts & Heritage Marketing Role
The Framework Knitters Museum is seeking a Freelance Arts & Heritage Marketer to support delivery of its National Lottery Heritage Fund project, A Stitch in Time, through a targeted marketing and publicity programme for the 2026 autumn and winter season, alongside promoting and developing our retail offer. The role focuses on increasing audience engagement, visitor numbers and profile, while mentoring staff to build long-term marketing capability.
This role is contracted from 21 September to 18 December, with a total fee available of £2,500.

Our Trustees oversee the overall management and administration of the charity, ensuring the organisation has a clear strategy and that its goals and activities align with our constitution and vision.
An opportunity is currently available to join the Board of Trustees (Directors) of the Ruddington Framework Knitters’ Museum and contribute to the strategic management of this highly regarded charity.
About the role
As Trustee Responsible for Fundraising, you will lead on developing and overseeing strategies to secure sustainable income for the Ruddington Framework Knitters’ Museum. This role is critical in ensuring the charity has the financial resources needed to achieve its mission of “inspiring creativity through powerful stories of craft and graft”.
We are particularly keen to hear from individuals with:
A minimum of 2 years’ fundraising experience (essential)
Strategic thinking skills and an interest in supporting a heritage and community-focused organisation

Front of House Volunteer
Enjoy meeting people and being the friendly face that welcomes visitors in?
Join us as a Front of House Volunteer in Parker’s Yard, where you’ll play a key role in creating a positive first impression of the museum. You’ll greet visitors, help with admissions and shop purchases, and ensure the front desk area is welcoming and well presented.
You’ll also support the wider team when needed, helping everything run smoothly and ensuring visitors have a great experience from the moment they arrive.
Regular volunteer shifts are available on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons or Saturday mornings.
No previous experience is required — just a friendly, approachable manner and confidence interacting with visitors. Training will be provided.
It’s a great opportunity to meet new people, build confidence, and be part of a supportive team bringing local history to life.

Circular Knitting Demonstator
Love chatting to people and keen to get hands-on with something a bit different?
Join us in the Griswold Room as a Circular Knitting Demonstrator, where you’ll help bring our fascinating knitting machines to life for visitors. You’ll show how they work, encourage people to have a go, and help create a relaxed, engaging experience.
You’ll also help keep an eye on the machines to make sure they’re used safely and looked after.
Regular volunteer shifts are available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday afternoons.
No prior experience is needed — training is provided. An interest in knitting, craft or heritage is a bonus, but what really matters is enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved.
It’s a great opportunity to meet new people, learn something new, and play an active role in sharing the story of framework knitting.

Museum Volunteer Opportunities
The history of framework knitting is a remarkable story of inventiveness, creativity, poverty and protest — and it all began right here in Nottinghamshire.
Our award-winning museum is one of the only places in the country where the working and living conditions of this historic industry are so carefully preserved. The site itself is a 19th-century working Framework Knitters’ yard, offering visitors a truly authentic experience.
We offer a range of volunteer opportunities, whether you’d like to use your existing skills, learn something new, or simply enjoy being part of a friendly and supportive team. Volunteering with us is a great way to meet new people, have fun, and spend time in a unique and inspiring environment.
No specific experience is required for any of our volunteer roles. However, the following skills and qualities are helpful:
