Following a period of illness, we were sad to hear last week about the death of Julian Ellis, former Chair of Trustees at the Framework Knitters Museum.
Julian became chair in 2017 following a long and illustrious career particularly being involved with medical textiles, producing 25 patents in this field, including embroidered structures that would be used by surgeons to repair or replace damaged or missing parts within the body.
Some of Julian’s groundbreaking medical textiles, based on embroidery, are on display in the Nottingham Castle Museum and the Modern Art Gallery in New York.
Julian’s contribution as Chair of Trustees was much valued, ensuring funding for projects and he sustained his interest in the Museum until his recent death from cancer.
Julian was keen that the Museum maintained a strong working relationship with Nottingham Trent University, where he was an Honorary Professor, and the Medical School at Nottingham University.
