Framework Knitters Museum Launches Sensory Backpacks to Support Visitors with Sensory Needs

The Framework Knitters Museum has launched a new initiative to improve accessibility with the introduction of sensory backpacks for visitors with sensory needs. This project has been made possible through funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The backpacks are available for visitors to borrow during their visit and are designed to create a more comfortable and supportive museum experience. Each pack includes sensory-friendly items such as fidget toys, ear defenders, and visual aids, helping to reduce anxiety and sensory overload.

This new resource is part of the museum’s ongoing commitment to making its historic site more inclusive and welcoming for all.

“We’re proud to be taking steps that make the museum more accessible,” said a museum spokesperson. “The sensory backpacks are a simple but effective way to support visitors who may experience sensory challenges, and we hope they will help everyone feel more at ease while exploring the museum.”

Visitors can ask at the front desk to borrow a sensory backpack during their visit.
