Victorian Bread Making

DUE TO THE CURRENT HEAT CONDITIONS AND THE SUBSEQUENT CLOSURE OF THE MUSEUM, THIS WORKSHOP ON THURSDAY 13th AUGUST IS NOW CANCELLED.
THE WORKSHOP ON WEDNESDAY 12th AUGUST WILL STILL BE GOING AHEAD AS NORMAL.
Join Ann & Yvonne for a fun and interactive Victorian Bread Making experience in the Museum Summerhouse!
Step back in time and discover how one of Britain’s most important staple foods was made in Victorian times. Explore the sights, smells and stories of traditional baking as Ann & Yvonne bring Victorian bread making to life.
Children and adults alike will have the opportunity to knead and shape their own bread using dough that’s been prepared in advance, just as Victorian bakers would have done. Once baked in a modern oven, you’ll be able to take your freshly baked bread home to enjoy.
Along the way, learn about the traditional ingredients, tools and techniques used before modern kitchens and electric ovens transformed baking, and discover the important role bread played in everyday Victorian life.
Perfect for families and anyone with an interest in history, food or traditional crafts, this engaging session offers a delicious glimpse into the past.
