We rely on our 50-strong network of volunteers to keep the museum open and help our visitors have the best possible experience.

Volunteering
Volunteers play a key role in the success of our Museum and our capacity to excite and delight our visitors. Whether your interest is in creativity, machinery, social and industrial history or engaging people in a new experience, you will find something suitable in our volunteer community.
What will you do?
What will you do?
You can look after our visitors
Greet visitors; tell them about the museum; take admissions; provide information about exhibitions and events; serve in the cafe; serve in the shop; keep the place clean and tidy
You can get historical
Tell visitors about framework knitting in Ruddington; give them the history of the site; introduce them to the story of the families who lived and worked here; explain what they can see and appreciate as they go around the site; answer questions; explain about demonstrations of the frames and the stocking machines

How much time can you spare?
Most of our volunteers choose to do a 3 hour ‘slot’, morning or afternoon on a weekly or fortnightly basis.
Don’t want a regular commitment?
Some of our volunteers help out at occasional events such as Christmas and Bank Holidays; creative workshops; exhibitions; Ruddington village activities; school and group visits
Some volunteers have specific skills which they want to use when the need arises, but not on a regular basis - such as gardening, social media, crafts, technology or administration
What happens next?
If you'd like to find out more about volunteering with us, please get in touch with the museum.
If we feel your skills and experience could benefit the museum, we’ll ask you to come in for a chat to discuss how you’d like to work with us.
You’ll be able to ask questions, talk to existing volunteers and see some of the tasks in which you might get involved.
If you then decide to join us, we'll provide an induction process to make sure you understand what’s expected from you and what to expect from us in return.

Terrific Museum
Second visit to this fascinating museum, a veritable storehouse of social history, staffed by knowledgeable, enthusiastic folk.
