A Great Filming Location
Our preserved frameshops and cottages offer an authentic location for film and TV makers looking to recreate a Victorian environment, or explore the social and industrial history of the knitting trade.
(Our volunteers are always happy to dress up in period costume if extras are required!)
Please note that due to the size of our museum site, plus limited access and parking, we can only accommodate small film crews.
The museum has played host to many filmmakers over the years, and has been used as a location for a wide range of fictional, documentary and educational films.
Where resources allow, we also support coursework-related filming requests from students at local colleges and universities.
Please get in touch to discuss your requirements.
We ask you to note that no filming or commercial photography is allowed on the museum site without prior consent.

Second visit to this fascinating museum, a veritable storehouse of social history, staffed by knowledgeable, enthusiastic folk. Some steps may prove difficult for the elderly or infirm but there’s plenty to appreciate at ground level.
Living History
My sister and I loved this museum. Especially the guided tours explaining how the machines work and the working and living conditions of the frame knitters at the time. Even got the chance to take a look at Queen Victoria’s stockings in the former methodist church across the cottages. Excellent museum! Very entertaining and interesting! Lovely to see such a local and ordinary history preserved
